Disclaimer: Kingdom of Seeds sells all seeds strictly for souvenir purposes only, for storage purposes in case the laws may change and for the genetic preservation of medically valuable cannabis strains. We will not sell seeds to anyone we think is buying with the purpose to germinate in countries where it is illegal to do so.
Cannabis seeds are only worth collecting if they can be stored for a prolonged period of time, often years and it is important to be aware of the correct methods of storing and, therefore, preserving your seeds allowing them to remain part of your collection for years to come.
When storing Cannabis seeds there are two key factors to consider; environment and container. Both of which are equally important in prolonging the life of your cannabis seeds.
The environment in which you store your seeds is important as moisture levels, temperature and light exposure all play a role in stability of your seeds over a long period of time.
Reducing the moisture exposure ensures seeds wont germinate or become mouldy rendering them useless as part of your expanding collection as the mould will only spread to effect the surrounding environment and perhaps surrounding seeds.
Large fluctuations in temperature can also significantly lower a seed’s longevity and keeping them at an optimum x% will preserve the seeds for as long as necessary.
Light is required for a seed to germinate and over exposure to light can ruin your seeds completely by affecting their shape, smell and effect which makes for a disappointing addition to your collection.
Overall, storing seeds in a cool, dry place with little to no light exposure is ideal. It is also important to ensure that this environment doesn’t fluctuate too much as the smallest changes can ruin your seeds, somewhere like a kitchen pantry is ideal as a storage facility however seeds can also be stored in the fridge or freezer for further longevity.
The containers in which you store your seeds are as equally as important as the environment as a poor storage container can have negative effects on your seeds.
The perfect container for the majority of cannabis seeds should be airtight as exposure to oxygen has the potential to negatively impact your seed. It is also recommended that you deter from using plastic containers and Ziploc bags as they allow light and temperature to fluctuate easily. These plastic storage containers should only be used as a short term solution.
The most optimum storage container is a glass container with a glass lid as they are easily accessible and don’t allow temperature to fluctuate too much. Furthermore, fitting a “lightening closure” will prevent any fluctuations in light levels allowing optimum preservation for your valuable seeds.
